Work on Maine’s “Most Beautiful Hotel”

ocean house king bedIn the spring of 2017, The Cliff House Hotel will be transformed into one of Maine’s most beautiful and luxurious places to visit on the southern coast.

Gorrill Palmer has been working with the owner’s and developers of the project since the idea of improvements were in the earliest stages nearly two decades ago.

The Cliff House permitted a Master Plan in 2000 to modernize the facility into one of the premier resorts in Maine. Gorrill Palmer was originally hired to prepare the traffic study for the original Master Plan working with the architect.  In 2014, a new ownership group purchased the property and retained Gorrill Palmer to prepare an updated traffic study, site design and lead the permitting effort.

Project Awarded for Restoration Excellence

Gorrill Palmer recently received a prestigious award from Greater Portland Landmarks at their Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony. Fort Allen Park Restoration Project was recognized as one of three recipients for Restoration Projects.

We would like to recognize Diane Davison and Friends of Eastern Prom, who helped lead the project to a successful outcome for all, and was personally recognized with a Preservation Leader award for her role in the project.

Gorrill Palmer assisted with the final permitting, civil design and construction administration. Martha Lyon, Landscape Architecture and Reginal Leonard, Landscape Architect were involved with the restoration design from the project start.

Construction Begins on Well-Planned Project

Waterville – Crews have begun the construction of a new interchange on Interstate 95 at Trafton Road in Waterville.

Gorrill Palmer’s involvement on this project dates back to 2011 when a Traffic Movement Permit was obtained for 450,000 sf of light industrial development which identified the need for the new interchange.  The project consists of a half-cloverleaf pattern at Trafton Road near the Sidney town line, allowing motorists to get on or off in either the north or southbound direction.

This project is realized through MaineDOT’s Business Partnership Initiative (BPI). Due to limited federal funds, the BPI program uses public and private money. In this instance, Trafton Properties, Inc., which holds land near the site of the new interchange, funded nearly half the cost of the traffic improvement project.  Working on behalf of Trafton Properties, Gorrill Palmer assisted Eaton Peabody Consulting Group on the preparation of the Interchange Justification Report which was approved in 2012. Gorrill Palmer continued to provide engineering support services associated with completion of the NEPA Environmental Assessment (EA), which included refinement of the traffic modeling, schematic design of the proposed partial cloverleaf interchange and project budget development. This scope of work is expected to be completed by the end of June, 2017.

We continue to support Trafton Properties development program providing Land Development services for the various parcels within the interchange area.

Gorrill Palmer Providing Services for Former “Top Chef” Contestant

Mike Isabella is a Washington, D.C.-based chef and restaurateur. In 2017, he will open Isabella Eatery, a 10-concept food emporium at Tysons Galleria in Fairfax, Virginia.  There is a new entrance to the “Eatery” from the parking deck, which surrounds the site.

Gorrill-Palmer is excited to be a part of this project and will provide site plan permitting and site work oversight.  We have provided services for Tysons Galleria’s multi-phased updates.

The relatively new concept of “food halls” is becoming increasingly more popular across the country.  To read more about this concept and our project specifically, click here.

Employees Help Raise Funds for Clean Water Education

Gorrill Palmer had a great time running in the Urban Run Off 5k this past weekend. Our team of eight joined hundreds of runners and took to the streets and trails of Portland to raise awareness of water pollution and raise funds to support clean water education in local schools. Team members enjoyed the post-race family festival celebrating clean water and are looking forward to the next race!
