Design Engineer – Municipal Engineering

We are seeking a new graduate or recent graduate (with up to two years of experience) with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering who is interested in working in the municipal engineering field as a design engineer in southern Maine. With our office located in South Portland, Maine, candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of municipal engineering projects in Maine and throughout New England. 

Job Description 

Applicants must be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of civil engineering. The primary focus of their knowledge and interest should be in the design of municipal facilities including roadways, pedestrian and bicycle features, water and sewer utilities, drainage, and pavement management. 

As an essential member of the Municipal Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and prioritizing engineering challenges to develop appropriate solutions. Work will include design, development of construction bid documents, performing engineering calculations, conducting site visits/inspections, developing project quantities, preparing construction cost estimates, and assisting and collaborating with team members (project engineers, project managers, CAD technicians) as needed for the successful completion of design assignments. 

Qualifications 

The following qualifications are required: 
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. 
• Good communication skills (written and verbal). 
• Reliable and hardworking. 
• Interest in municipal engineering with a passion for learning the field. 

The following additional qualifications are desirable: 
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam 
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD software

Senior Project Technical Administrator

We are seeking a senior level (7+ years of experience) Project Technical Administrator to assist Project Managers in our office located in South Portland, Maine. Candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of civil engineering projects in Maine and throughout New England.

Job Description
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with problem solving skills who can assist in everything from researching prospective projects to permitting, tracking regulatory approvals and submittals, and coordinating with municipalities. Candidate will work closely with project managers, engineers, and administrative staff to ensure the highest level of service is provided to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and perform analysis of permitting and potential impacts to projects

Collaborate with regulatory agencies, clients, and work with team members to ensure compliance. Experience with Maine Department of Environmental Protection applications, Maine DOT and US Army Corp of Engineers permitting preferred

Liaison between the local/state municipalities and design team during the permitting process by preparing submittal packages and comment response letters

Project set up, including budgeting and ongoing review of labor and costs

Assist PMs with client invoicing and management of accounts receivable while maintaining positive client relationships

Assist with bidding efforts

Assist in preparing, formatting, and proofreading of proposals, engineering reports, permit applications, and letters

Work in a confidential nature requiring a broad understanding of organization policies and practices

Capabilities and Credentials
• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, Accounting, Real Estate Studies, Public Administration, Environmental Science or similar field preferred
• Prior experience working in an Architecture/Engineering industry or Municipal Planning Office a plus
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent time management skill with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with many competing priorities
• Positive and energetic attitude
• Interest in commercial real estate development with a passion for learning the field.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator a plus
• Familiarity with Deltek Ajera software preferred
