Design Engineer – Land Development, Municipal, Transportation 

We are seeking a new graduate or recent graduate (with up to two years of experience) with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, who is interested in working as a design engineer in southern Maine. With our office located in South Portland, Maine, the candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of land development, municipal and/or transportation projects in Maine and throughout New England.

Job Description

Applicants must be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of civil engineering. The primary focus of their knowledge and interest should be in the design of site development, municipal and/or transportation facilities including commercial and residential site development, utility and roadway infrastructure design for municipalities and/or roadways, intersections, pedestrian/bicycle features and traffic analysis for state government transportation clients.

As an essential member of the firm, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing design tasks, engineering analysis, research, documentation of solutions with recommendations and development of construction documents. Work may include development of designs, engineering calculations, conducting site visits/inspections, developing project quantities, preparing construction cost estimates and assisting and collaborating with team members (project engineers, project managers, CAD technicians) as needed for the successful completion of design assignments.

Qualifications
The following qualifications are required:
▪ Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
▪ Good communication skills (written and verbal).
▪ Reliable and hardworking.
▪ Interested in engineering with a passion for learning the field.

The following additional qualifications are desirable:
▪ Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
▪ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
▪ Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD and/or Micro Station)

Job Description
This position requires the ability to work with engineers and clients while managing budgets and schedules. Knowledge in the principles and practices of a variety of municipal engineering projects is critical. The primary focus includes municipal planning and revitalization plans, road and multimodal design, low impact and green infrastructure design, sewer collection system design, water distribution system design, pavement management, and construction management.

As an essential member of the Municipal Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects, budgets, and staff. Leading the preparation of design plans, specifications and estimates as well as managing and directing staff on assignments, collaborating with clients, attending and participating in meetings, and performing marketing efforts for our group and the firm. Work will also include coordinating project and construction related assignments with other group leaders and project managers in the company.

Project Manager – Bridge Team

Gorrill Palmer is seeking a talented and career minded individual to serve as Project Manager leading a Bridge Team at our corporate office located in South Portland, Maine. We are seeking an individual that has an interest in initially managing bridge projects but also has a desire to potentially become our Bridge Group leader for this new service line. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish a bridge program client base and assist in the selection of support staff for the bridge group. Candidates will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects in the New England area.

Job Description
Applicant must be knowledgeable in the principles and practices of structural design of bridges. The primary focus of the knowledge shall be with the latest design and industry standards for roadway, pedestrian, railroad bridges and related structures. Applicants for this senior level position should bring established client relationships and experience working on and managing bridge projects for clients such as Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Turnpike Authority, municipalities, other state DOT’s and/or railroads.

Applicant should bring knowledge and experience with bridge design and detailing of steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete bridges and other structures. Applicant will need to be able to develop alternatives analyses, preliminary design reports, contract plans, specifications and construction cost estimates in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & MaineDOT. The applicant will be expected to manage projects from proposal phase, through bidding and construction, including providing technical guidance, budget/schedule control and quality control oversight.

As an essential member of the Transportation Engineering Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects, budgets, and design staff. Leading the design and development of bridge plans, specifications and estimates as well as managing and directing staff on assignments, working with clients, attending meetings and performing marketing efforts related to their Team, our Group and the Firm.

Job Description

Responsibilities

•    Assist with special projects for Principals

•    Receive direction primarily from Principals and Project Managers

As an essential member of the Municipal Group, the successful candidate will be responsible for using AutoDesk AEC software, including Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Vehicle Tracking, and other applications to prepare civil engineering plans and graphics. You will also assist engineers with preparing quantity takeoffs, opinions of probable construction cost, and graphics for proposals, design reports, and permit applications.

Qualifications & Requirements
