We are seeking talented and career minded individual(s) to work as Construction Inspector(s) in Central, Southern and Western Maine. This is a seasonal position working for Gorrill Palmer on Maine Department of Transportation construction inspection assignments, beginning on or around May 15 and extending to October or November. Work will include providing lead inspection on roadway paving, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects. If the right individual brings the skillset and qualifications to assist with design or CAD technician work in the office during the winter, there is an opportunity for full-time employment with this position.
Inspection duties will include lead construction inspection, measurement and documentation of construction activities, computation of quantities and checking work for compliance with specifications. Work may also include performing field testing, communicating the test results to the Contractor as well as overseeing the work performed by supporting inspectors.
Work beyond eight hours per day and beyond 40 hours per week is typically required for this position. Time over 40 hours is compensated at time-and-a-half. Night, weekend and holiday work may also be required. Travel to the job site will be required. Locations of work will vary depending on the assignment.
Ideal applicants for this position will have prior construction inspection experience and a solid working knowledge of the principles and practice of roadway engineering and construction. The successful candidate should be an excellent communicator, have solid writing/math skills and be comfortable interacting with and directing others on the job site, including inspectors and contractors. The successful candidate will be expected to provide lead oversight of construction assignments.
The following qualifications are required:
- A minimum of four years of construction inspection experience relating to roadway and transportation projects
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in college, ideally in the engineering or construction field
- NETTCP paving certified or ability to get certified prior to May 15
- Self-motivated and experienced in understanding and interpreting contract documents
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
